WHY Mission Institute?

We live in an age of overload. The amount of information on planet earth is doubling every two years. Whereas the educational need for our ancestors was ACCESS to KNOWLEDGE—like medicine, farming techniques, technology—the need educational need for us today is CURACY of knowledge so that we can make wise and helpful meaning out of that information for the glory of God and the good of our neighbor.

The Church of Jesus Christ is a SENT people. The faith we have found in Jesus brings us TOGETHER into local community, and then SENDS US OUT as one to reveal the Kingdom of God in all of its healing and transformational wonder through our every day lives—in our families, through our freindships, through our jobs, liesure time, and presence in our neighborhoods.

The advent of COVID-19 in 2020 has exposed many of the church’s idols, especially in North America. While we have long said publicly that “the church is NOT a building,” we have at the same time very often failed to equip our people to live lives that look like Jesus and accomplish the SENT & SENDING mission of the church 7 days a week.

It is for these reasons that we are excited to introduce you to MISSION INSTITUTE.

WHAT IS Mission Institute?

MISSION INSTITUTE is the Digital Ministry arm of The Mission Cincinnati. The goal of Mission Institute is to provide digital discipleship resources, strengthening the church to serve the world seven days a week. These resources are prayerfully offered to equip you to know, love, and follow Jesus in every aspect of your life outside of gathered worship. These resources aim TO WED HEAD AND HEART.

We don’t just want to increase our knowledge, we want to be formed as faithful disciples who are able to see what God is doing IN us even as we learn. Part of our work will also involve CURACY. While we will be creating many new resources ourselves, we will also be bringing together some of the best of what other brilliant leaders have created to commend these to you. Finally, almost all of the offerings here can be accessed and engaged with ASYNCHRONOUSLY, meaning that you can dive in, learn, pray, and grow on YOUR schedule.

That said, we are deeply committed to the Biblical truth that discipleship, formation, and spiritual growth in Christ happen best IN COMMUNITY. And so, as you learn, we would love to dialogue with you. Specifically, our pastors would love to meet with you, and then we’d love to welcome you into one of our many Mission Communities, where you can journey alongside others. If you do not live locally in Cincinnati, we can also help to connect you with local churches and life-giving Christian community in your city or region.
