Regional Small Groups

Community is a vital part of our discipleship journey together, and Regional Small Groups (RSGs) are one of the key ways we build community at the Mission Cincinnati . RSGs are intergenerational communities that meet weekly in homes all around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in the Fall and the Winter/Spring seasons that provide space for us to eat together, discuss Scripture, engage various spiritual practices together, pray for one another, and do local mission together. If you have already gone through Pathways (our newcomers and membership cohorts), RSGs are the place for you to continue to grow in relationship with God and with each other.

Why Join an RSG?

If you have not yet joined a RSG and are wondering why you should join in, here are some good reasons.

RSGs:

  • Allow for deeper community to be built than can just be done on Sunday mornings.

  • Help us to grow in the Fruit of the Spirit as we do life with others who are different than us.

  • Help us to form local regional families who can care for one anothers’ needs.

  • Help us have vision and hands to engage in local outreach in our neighborhoods.

  • Help us to chew on and assimilate Scripture into our life so that our engagement with the Bible is not just informational, but formational.

  • Help us grow in various spiritual practices that we might find difficult to do on our own.

  • Help our church identity precursor communities for potential new church plants in other parts of Greater Cincinnati in the future.

FAQs

Can I be a part of a Pathways Cohort AND an RSG?

If you are new to the Mission, the best place to get connected into the life of the Mission is to join a Pathways Cohort. That said, if Pathways has started for the season and you have missed enrolling, you can certainly join an RSG. Also, if you have bandwidth, you can be part of both a Pathways cohort and a RGS. That said, we recommend you make your Pathways cohort your priority for this season and make sure an RSG does not impact your commitment to Pathways.

Can I attend a RSG if I am not a member or regular attender of the Mission?

Absolutely! If you have friends at the Mission and would like to spend more time engaging Scripture and prayer in community, you are certainly welcome to be part of an RSG.

How long do RSGs run?

RSGs run for 10 weeks from early September to mid- November and then again for 10 weeks from February to mid-May.

Is there a weekly commitment?

Yes and no. RSGs do not require the same level of commitment as Pathways, however, the more you can attend, the deeper community you will be able to build and also the deeper engagement you’ll have with Scripture and the Lord. A good rule of thumb for discerning whether you can be part of a RSG in a given season is whether you will be able to be part of the group for at least 50% of the time.

What do we do each week in RSGs?

Each week, we gather for food (meal or snacks), Scripture engagement (in this season a discussion of the previous week’s sermon), and prayer. A couple times throughout the months, we also engage in some spiritual practices together.

Do RSGs require any preparation?

In this season, we discuss the previous weeks’s sermons so ideally you would have heard the sermon in church on Sunday. If you missed church, you can always listen to the sermons here (scroll to the at the bottom of the page to fine the sermon link). You can also preview the questions you’ll be discussing in your group here: If for some reason, you are not able to listen to the sermon that week, still feel free to come! We’ll always start off with the Scripture that formed the basis for the sermon, so you’ll still most certainly be able to contribute to the discussion.
