Alleluia, the Lord is Risen! The Lord is Risen Indeed. Alleluia!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. In our anguish we cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting us free. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. The LORD is our strength and our song; he has become our salvation. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. We will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; The LORD has done this; and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. - The Worship Sourcebook, 2004

Friends, this is undoubtedly the strangest Easter that any of our generation has ever experienced, and although it may sad that there are people who are gravely ill all around this world at this time, and although it may be odd that we are not together with our church families or extended families, the following truth still holds, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” The current circumstances of our times do not change the fact that on that very first Easter more than 2000 years ago, Jesus conquered death and set in motion a New Creation!

So even on this particular Easter (today and for the next 50 days that an encompass the Easter Season), we can boldly proclaim, “Alleluia, Christ is Risen. the Lord is Risen indeed!” We can practice resurrection. So, on this Easter Day, we want to encourage you to rejoice and to celebrate, whether you are with your nuclear family or you are alone. Here are some ways!

1) Celebrate with a Meal.

While this may seem like an obvious one, for those of us who alone, this may fall by the way side, but do celebrate! Set time aside for a special Easter meal, whether that involves hotdogs on paper plates or fancy meals on your best plates. It doesn’t matter. Savor your meal and thank God for his many blessings.

2). Explore your neighborhood, looking for signs of new life.

Look for buds on trees, bulbs bursting forth from the ground, flowers, and more, remembering how God has brought forth new life on this day. Celebrate the new life that is all around you.

3). Reach out to family and to at least one Mission Cincinnati member.

Call or video chat with family and at least one person from the Mission Cincinnati that day to celebrate!

4). Engage in something creative as an offering to Jesus.

Whether you are have children or not, or whether you are particularly artistic or not, engage in something creative, whether that is decorating a part of your house for Easter, dying eggs, drawing and painting eggs with the art supplies you have, making music, writing a poem or a writing new song, or whatever it is. Remember the New Creation that God has set forth in motion through Jesus, being his image bearer and also creating something new on this day. Links to some creative ideas for dying eggs are below.

5). Take and share photographs of your day.

Take photographs of whatever you would like: your Easter meal, your Easter decorations, the flowers and signs of new life in your neighborhood, your creative offerings to Jesus, or whatever you would like. Then share them on our Mission Cincinnati Community Facebook Page and through any other means you have so your family and Mission Cincinnati family can celebrate with you.
